The French Riviera....
The third leg of our trip was back in France. We had another long drive back to France and spent the first night in Avignon. We had left the rainy mountains of Switzerland and landed up in a wind storm in France - fun times.
After setting up camp (not easy when the wind wants to take your tent with it), we headed into the walled city of Avignon for a short walking tour. After that we split into groups and headed our for dinner. We found a lovely little french restaurant and had pasta haha - well, at least our waiter was French - i.e. strange and pervy. After dinner and a few glasses of wine we met back up with our group at a bar called L'Americana for a night of karaoke. We had such a fantastic night - especially with our rendition of Queen's Bohemian Rhaposdy :)
The next morning we packed up camp again and made our way to the French Riviera. We stopped at a French parfumirie for awhile, and they showed us their labs and told us how they make perfume. Afterwards we headed to Antibes, through Nice, and set up camp there. We took a quick walk into town for a swim in the Med, and then headed back to camp to meet the coach. From there, the coach took us into Monaco for a night of glamour and gambling!
Wow - what a place. The money there is ridiculous. Fancy cars, and yachts bigger than my house! We didnt go into the grand casino because they charge you just to enter the place, and you have to be smartly dressed - I didn't have space in my backpack for my heels. But, we went to another casino down the road which was also very fancy... drinks were 14 euros each, ouch. So, 1 drink only, and a little bit of gambling was all our budget allowed for. Dane lost about 10 euros. I lost 5 of one of those stupid poky machines, and then put a tenner on roulette and won 15, so at least I broke even :)
The next morning we set out early to Nice and had a free day there. Dane and I spent a bit of time walking around the town, getting lost in the little streets, and eventually made our way to the port and the beach. We found some of our group on the pebble beach and set up 'camp' with them there... we didn't move off that beach for the rest of the day. The sun was amazing, the water was even better! We made a quick trip to a market to get some lunch - yummy pizza bread, olives, fruit and cocktails :) That evening some of the group had dinner in Nice and some of us stayed for drinks at the campsite and dinner in Antibes. We went to a restaurant that served the biggest pizzas I have ever seen (well, for 1 person that is - Gino's family size is still bigger, but that is made for a family). They were humungous!!!
After dinner everyone was so full of food and sun, that we just had a few drinks back at camp and then headed off to bed, ready for the next part of our trip.... ITALY!!!
